School News: Accelerated Reader

The Accelerated Reader Program in the elementary school is up and running once again after a very successful year in 2008-2009. Mr. Pasukinis was very happy and impressed with the students' response to accept his challenge to read more, and he felt that it had paid off, as most of our students did better in their end of the year testing. Miss Lutkiewicz, school librarian, who coordinated the program through the elementary library, was also very happy with the student response and has upgraded the AR program with a new and updated tracking program. Students' participation in the program in grades 3-6 increased by 20% from the previous year, and now our 1st and 2nd graders are participating as well. Six students had their names engraved on a huge plaque which is displayed in the school for those who have achieved over 200 points. We also had 93 50-point club members from grades 2-6, with each reader receiving a 50-point club T-shirt. Mr. Pasukinis would like to thank all parents who encouraged their children, and he hopes they will continue to stress the priority of reading this year as well.

February, 2010 High-point classes: 3rd grade- Mrs. Knorr, 4th grade- Mrs. Klingler, 5th grade-Mrs. Beagle, 6th grade- Mrs. Yedloski.
